Ice cream is a staple in our family’s food groups — my husband always says the Hesche family has 4 food groups –Ice cream, watermelon, sweet corn and everything else. When I was small we would make homemade ice cream – using the crank mixer, electric ones being far into the future. My dad or one of the other adults present would always be the one to finish cranking as we kids had such short attention spans. And did the ice cream taste good — smooth and rich, made with cream, eggs, sugar and vanilla. And my hubby and I still make it. We’ve made it twice this summer.

I called  the cheese factory outside of town to see about buying the cream. “Yes, you can buy cream if you get here before 11 – that’s when the butter man comes to pick up the cream”. What wonderful words to hear. And it makes a wonderful ice cream! My son and his wife make it, my brothers and their families make it. You should too! Email me if you want the recipe.

In honor of our family, I’ve made Ice Cream Earrings. They are Swarovski crystals, Swarovski pearls, and sterling. They are just about 1″ long and very lightweight — I was surprised because I thought they ‘looked’ heavy. I think it’s that pearl sitting on top of that lovely sparkly Swarovski crystal. They are 20.00 for a pair – that includes the free first class shipping to you ( in the US).

pink-bead-with-noodles-for-mike-menzels-auction.jpg

Well, I’m back from vacation! We spent 8 days in Las Vegas – at the National Garden Railway Convention. We toured people’s back yards and checked out their train layouts. What a blast! We went to Mt. Charleston and saw a train layout. Beautiful landscape in the mountain and the desert but we were glad to come home. We were home for 3 days and headed to Michigan to see our families and friends. Talk about needing a rest after vacation – whew!

While we were gone, there was a fund raiser held on behalf of Mike Menzel of Brodhead. I donated a bracelet for the auction they were having as we couldn’t be home to attend. The bracelet pictured above is the bracelet that Mike’s sisters selected. The bead in the center is a one of a kind lampwork bead by Linda Lundgren. I had the opportunity to purchase the bead while attending Sharilyn Miller’s class in Naperville, IL last February at The Gathering Place. When I purchased the bead I wasn’t really sure how I was going to use it but I thought it really needed to be featured in whatever piece of jewelry it went in. After much debate I thought a bracelet would show it to it’s best advantage so I added a couple of Swarovski crystals ( you can never have too much chocolate or too many Swarovskis in your jewelry!) and some sterling noodles and toggle. I was assured that the lady who won the bracelet put it right on and wore it home!
