Almost Home

I’m almost home – free. Tax prep is close to being done – 3 more things to do and 2 of them are phone calls! Then I’ll be ready to roll onto something else.

One more checkbook to balance this week – 2 of those are done. And I’m not talking about a month’s worth of balancing – oh,no – I’m not that committed to remember to sit down once a month. I know it’s late but I swear this year will be better. Every month for 30 minutes and I can have them done. Repeat – every month, every month, every month…

Of course, when that is done there is a pile of beads to be inventoried. All those beads that called my name are still sitting in front of the computer – Swarovski, a pile of different colored 4mm ones, lamp work from the Madison Bead Show, cabs to be wrapped from Blue Heron Gems and I know there’s more hiding in that pile of paperwork.

Well, guess I better get some supper before I fall asleep in front of the TV – off to watch NCIS.

Taxes, taxes and more taxes…..

Be wary of strong drink.  It can make you shoot at tax collectors… and miss.  ~Robert Heinlein

I’ve been reading Robert Heinlein since I was 15 and when I found this quote today I realized again how much I really like him!!!

I’ve been working on my taxes today – and boy, does it take the fun out of jewelry making…

How much did you pay for that bead, that jump ring, that ounce of sterling? Where’s the d*** receipt for my business cards…. I know I got new ones last year – how did I pay for them? I apparently didn’t write a check, I can’t find a receipt in Paypal so that leaves the credit card bill. Let me look – oh, that’s in a different pile.

Talk about discouraging – if I could see straight I might look for my hubby’s gun!

In the meantime, l would be glad to have you take a look at the right side of the screen. I spent Sunday learning how to ‘make a table’. Not set the table but something somebody thought up to make things look straight and even in a computer program. You can see all my hard work in the section labeled 2009 shows. If you would like to come and see me after I survive the tax man, this will tell you where to look!

You have to give a woman a ring!

Actually, the full quote by Mae West says “Opportunity knocks for every man but you have to give a woman a ring”. Well, today is your lucky day! You may be able to win a ring – the lovely wooden ring pictured above is being given away by Michabella Creations. This lovely palm tree is just one of the options! Just click on the link to her blog and the instructions are there. But hurry – the contest ends April 9th. You have 4 days to enter!!!!

Michabella is owned by 2 friends – Michelle and Cindy. They started out like a lot of ladies in the jewelry biz – making jewelry for themselves but soon moved into the biz part. Their jewelry is very afford ably priced.

WisCon 33 Art Show

I can’t decide if I’m nervous or excited! I was accepted into an Art Show at the WiscCon 33! There will be over 40 artists there and I’m one of them!  The partial picture you see above is the necklace that I sat right down and made after getting my acceptance. It is about 17 inches long – more choker length as I think that’s the proper length to show off the lampwork heart. I had purchased the beads a couple of years ago in an online auction – a group of lampworkers had donated some of their beads to raise money for another lampworker who had had a house fire and lost everything. The beads look as if they contain little galaxies in them — swirls and whirls of dots and silver and light. With the sterling chainmaille I think this is the perfect fit for  these beads which I’ve had for close to 2 years – waiting for the perfect place to use them. And I think this is the place! If anyone recognizes their beads please let me know as I’d love to give the proper person credit for them!

The WisCon is a feminist science convention that has been held for years in Madison WI. I’m going to volunteer on Sunday afternoon to work – hopefully at the Art Show. It sounds very interesting and I’d like to see a variety of the folks who attend this show. I’ve been reading scifi since I was about 12 but I’m not sure if what I read is considered ‘feminist’ scifi so after my eyes straighten up I’m going to do some heavy duty reading for a week or two. This year’s featured writers are Ellen Lages and Geoff Ryman.

If any of you reading this blog are going to the convention please let me know.

Venus Handbag in Pink and Brown Lefleur

Whoever said this has never seen the purses that Theresa of TiLT Creations can whip up! All sizes and shapes can this lady create. My favorite is the one pictured above — a deep red on my computer screen. Fashioned from 3 different fabrics, this purse is wonderful!  Easy to open and close, Theresa seems to use magnetic clasp on a lot of her purses.

For some entertaining reading, check out Theresa’s blog for an entertaining peek into a crafty mom’s life.
