Size doesn’t matter!

How often have we as women said those words? Not only to some man in our life but to each other?

No one wants to say I wear a size 14 (or bigger). Everyone wants to wear a 10 or 8 or….

And is it true? Not on your life! Size really does matter – especially if you are a woman who has the misfortune to have a larger than normal wrist…..

And so I’ve started a line of bracelets in Size 8 – bracelets for the larger wrist. This doesn’t mean the woman is fat! Not by any means. Sometimes she’s 6 foot tall. Sometimes she’s big in the chest area and that seems to carry on down to the wrist. And yes, sometimes it is being a bit overweight – but not always.

I always said I was ‘big-boned’. (Snickering at that thought now). I’ve made many a bracelet in the last 6 years and you know what? I’m just plain fat — not big boned! I’ve got a small wrist — almost smaller than a 7. But in the last year when i was doing the Dane County Farmer’s Market – I had a lot of women looking for a larger size bracelet. And not a lot of people make them.

So I’m starting a line of Size 8 bracelets — and hope to be listing in my Etsy store and my Artfire store soon. the bracelet you see in the picture at the top of this article — that’s a Size 8 and a good looking bracelet too, isn’t it?

optical amplifierKeep an eye out – and pass the word along to all those ladies you know who can’t buy a bracelet ‘off the rack’. Send her my way!

Two hearts joined together

Two hearts joined together in friendship. I really couldn’t find out who this quote was by but I think it fits these earrings perfectly!

I made these earrings this afternoon – again working with the torch since my hubby’s not home! I think they will look equally as nice with jeans as well as that little black dress.

These earrings would make a great gift to a special friend or maybe even your wife!

I’m so excited and I just can’t hide it!

My hubby is out of town for a few days so yesterday I played with my torch. It always makes him nervous when I play with the torch so I thought this would be the opportune time! He acts like I’m going to burn the house down. I’ve never even started a fire with my torch – I just don’t know where he gets these ideas!!  I started out thinking I was going to solder some things I’ve got started but…

Last Thanksgiving, we had gone to OH to see family and my sister in law and niece took me to this very cool bead store — I purchased a few beads but I also checked out their book selection. And bought this wonderful book in fusing fine silver. And yesterday I thought — what about that book? Where is it? Can you find it? (For those who’ve seen my basement work area – you know what I mean!) Well, I found it quite quickly — only about 10 minutes looking as it was actually on the bookshelf! Not opened up to a project and laid down somewhere with stuff piled on top of it.

I had a wonderful time! Made 2 bracelets and have more links yet to play with — I’ve listed one of the bracelets that I made on Artfire. Have to list the other one tomorrow as I’m running behind and it’s only 7:15 am!!

eSmarts Team

I have a store on Etsy. For those of you who haven’t heard of it — Etsy is an online store stocked with hand crafted items — not just jewelry but quilting, painting and a variety of other things. Each person has their own little storefront to stock as they wish. You can search by color, area of the country, size, and a multitude of ways I would never have thought of to search for things.

In order to learn more about merchandising (a dreaded word for an artist type of person) as it means promoting yourself and most artists I know hate that part. Love to create but hate the promotion and selling aspect of it. I was fortunate to stumble across a group of folks who create but needed to learn the hows and whys.

And this team decided to start an additional storefront and load it with art from the members. Sounds kind of goofy doesn’t it? Stock your own storefront and turn around and put it somewhere else too. However, there is a method to the madness! All or part of the money from the sale of the item in the team store would go for a ‘good cause’ – to be determined by the group at large. Our first ‘good cause’ was to help one of the members who had her laptop stolen — and it’s kind of hard to have an online store without a computer.

As you can see by some of the items I have pictured here our group is a varied one. If you seek a truly handmade gift for yourself or someone else please consider shopping Etsy and please take a look at our team store – eSmarts.

The swirl and swing…

Please click on picture for a closer look.

I love the swirl and swing of words as they tangle with human emotions.

This quote by James Michener sums up a lot of the way I feel about beads and making jewelry. The swirl of color and motion in a pair of earrings that dangle, the swirl of colors on your arm as you look at the bracelet you’ve made or the swirl and sparkle around your neck as a bracelet of Swarovski crystals catch and reflect the light in a million colors.

The bracelet pictured above is a perfect example of swirls and swing. The swirl of color in the handmade beads swing on your arm and catch the colors of the cantelope color changing beads by Swarovski.  I have no idea how they can make a color like this but I swear – they are geniuses or geni or what ever the proper phrase might be. How one bead can wear the colors of many is amazing to me.

If you would like to own this lovely size 8 bracelet please go to the column on the right of this page and click on the ArtFire link.

These lovely earrings — a sure sign  of spring and summer – were fashioned by Annette Piper of BespokeDesigns. Annette is a certified gemologist and knows all the important things about gemstones. Her love of gems certainly show in her work. Annette currently lives in Australia and when I read her blog – Under the Loupe I seem to hear this lovely Aussie voice in my head. Not actually ever hear Annette speak, I’m sure this is probably a figment of my overactive imagination (or too much televison) as I don’t even know if she was born and raised there. Please feel free to pop over to her blog and see the lovely photos she has included of the veiw from her front yard and back door step.
